Even Churhill Teachers Know There Are Problems

This week's Sentinel has an interesting article reporting that a number of Churhill Junior High School Teachers presented the Town Council with a petition containing more than 100 names asking to keep the East Brunswick Police Officer assigned to the Churchill Junior High School. (see the link on the right) This is clearly at odds with the comments Mrs. Becker made at the Memorial School candidates debate where she dismissed a parent's concern about drugs, violence and sexual activity at Churchill by claiming that East Brunswick has one of the lowest numbers of incidents reported on the Violence Vandalism and Drug Report sent to the state. So who do you think is in a better position to know what's going on, Mrs. Becker or teachers that are actually doing the job in the school building. Maybe Mrs. Becker and the rest of the board should pay more attentiion to their parents and staff. Maybe if they didn't spend $113,000 on a Public Relations Director and more than $500,000/year on three superintendents they could find the money in the budget to pay for a police officer at the High School AND at Churchill and actually keep our kids safe???

  1. DAILY FIGHTS IN THE HALLS! all the little teens with their phones videorecording. Drugs of your choice. IT is crazy. This is what we pay school taxes for. They need to abolish the administration and let the municipal run the schools. We can remove the abundance of wasted salary's that are spent and don't even see a child during the course of their so called work day. Becker needs to do some research before putting her self on the front line with questions from parents. That parent put her in a position which she only wished she could slither out of. poor performance.Don't though out percentage facts, that means she didn't have a clue. Maybe they spend the night at the "private" meeting practicing their concession speeches

  2. Eliminating the police officer at Churchill would be a huge mistake. I have a child at Churchill and regardless of what Mrs. Becker says there are fights all the time. I've seen firsthand the "phone videorecordings". There are also drugs available if that's what a kid is looking for. One police officer can't stop all problems but eliminating him will only increase the problem.

  3. The buses are a zoo too. The stuff that goes on in the buses is unbelievable, if you have a kid at churchill, ask them.

  4. Too bad you can't get all the kids with videos of fights and other inappropriate behavior to forward them to you, whip up a nice montage, and show it at the next board meeting. Then what would they say?

  5. I would be happy to receive any videos that do not violate any laws at info@gottaxes.org

  6. Maybe those with the video should send them to the school principal so the appropriate action can be taken.

  7. The principal knows about the fights, they get broken up by the teachers and I'm sure the kids involved get in trouble. The point is the board doesn't seem to think anything bad goes on at the schools or they wouldn't be considering getting rid of the police officer. He can't be everywhere at one time, which is why the teachers have to break up fights, but the teachers know that there is violence and don't want the officer removed. The board should listen to them. The officer should be in the building if and when he is needed.

  8. I heard that it is the township removing the officer not the board.

  9. It's all about the cost. If the township can't cover it in their budget than the board should certainly pick up the cost - - no brainer!

Do we spend $113,000/year on a public relations director or on a public safety officer?

Seems like an easy choice to me.

  10. Every school has its share of fights and drugs. What needs to be proven is - does E. Brunswick have more then the average? The police in town will tell you that they know for a fact that the schools like to cover up most of what goes on. Eliminating the police officer would accomplish just that. We need more police presence. The buses are a joke ... how about video cameras - how about a bond refendedum for that? Video cameras would knock out 80% of the bus violence. Then kids should be expelled permanently from the bus if they are caught being violent. Then the parents have to drive these kids to school. Maybe then the parents of these kids would wake up and control their children. Instead of the Aministation taking a pay raise why don't they forefeit it and use it instead to provide cameras for the buses. They can spend all day investigating issues that happen on the bus. They should spend their time concentrating on the education of our children.
